Third space: Artists on main street

What is Third Space? It's an opportunity for ALL Winonans to get outside and discover their downtown.

WHAT IT IS: This activity is part of Artists on Main Street, a partnership between the Winona Main Street Program, Preservation Alliance of Minnesota and Springboard for the Arts, with support from the Bush Foundation.

THE GOAL: To create activity and installations to draw people from Levee Park and into the business district. All projects must take place between the intersection of 2nd and Main, to Third and Main and down to Third and Lafayette.

HOW IT WORKS: This artist-led placemaking initiative is meant to be varied, from passive or interactive installations, exhibits, programming or events, and include a broad cross-section of Winona’s population from youth to seniors, and may be focused on one specific part of the population.

WHERE IT IS:  All events are outside from the entrance of Levee Park at 2nd and Main, down to Third and Lafayette Streets.

Third Space is part of Artists on Main Street, a partnership between the Winona Main Street Program, Preservation Alliance of Minnesota and Springboard for the Arts, with support from the Bush Foundation. The goal of Third Space is to create free programming for the public to be held outside on Third Street between Center Street and Lafayette Street, to encourage outdoor activity downtown beyond the borders of Levee Park and to encourage foot traffic in the downtown business district. This artist-led placemaking initiative is meant to be varied, from passive programming to interactive events, and include a broad cross-section of Winona’s population from youth to seniors, and may be focused on one specific part of the population.

All artists are encouraged to apply, including people who don’t view themselves as “traditional” artists or enjoy art-based activities as a hobby. There will be approximately 12 projects funded at $1000 awarded, featuring smaller events as well as two to three signature events that will be awarded a slightly higher amount.

Anyone with interest in applying is required to attend this free training work shop.
